One of the first things to decide when thinking of going on a trip to Colorado is when to visit. While we truly believe that there is no bad season on Colorado’s Front Range, depending on what activities you would like to do, there may be times that suit your fancy more than others.
Below, we will go through what every season on the front range is like so you can decide when the best time is for you to visit!
For skiing, sledding, and winter scenery: November through March. Ski season can be somewhat unpredictable, but Colorado is fortunate to get its fair share of snow each year, which gives it one of the longest ski seasons in the country. If you for sure want to hit the slopes, try to plan your trip for some time between late November and the middle of March to be safe. Many resorts will end up staying open through April but trying to come before the end of March is typically a safer bet.
For hiking, mountaineering, and general exploration: April through October. Colorado boasts ample amounts of sunshine each year, so chances are, you will get gorgeous weather if you come any time in April through October. If you plan to visit Rocky Mountain National Park to hike, climb or generally explore, coming during these months is a great way to soak up the sun and the scenery that the Front Range has to offer.
For general sightseeing and exploring the towns: Any month. There truly is not a bad time to visit the Front Range, especially if you want to do some general sightseeing that is not so weather dependent. Many of our local attractions (like the Mountain Coaster) are open year-round, so no matter when you plan your trip, you are guaranteed to have a fantastic experience!

Next, narrow down some must-do activities. There is truly so much to do in Colorado that it is hard to be bored! Depending on the time of year you are visiting, skiing, hiking, horseback riding, and our own Mustang Mountain Coaster are all incredible outdoor activities the whole family can have fun doing. Be sure to identify your absolute musts first, and then decide what other activities you will have time for during your trip. That way, you can hit everything you want to and then some!
Finally, pack your bags and get ready! The anticipation leading up to a trip can make it feel like it is ages away, but planning ahead is a great way to fill that time. Make sure you have all the wearable gear you may need for your trip, which will vary depending on when you will be coming and what you will be doing. Regardless of the time of year or the activity, layers are always your friend in Colorado because of how much temperatures can fluctuate!
