One of the first things to decide when thinking of going on a trip to Colorado is when to visit. While we truly believe that there is no bad season on Colorado’s Front Range, depending on what activities you would like to do, there may be times that suit your fancy more than others.
Below, we will go through what every season on the front range is like so you can decide when the best time is for you to visit!
For skiing, sledding, and winter scenery: November through March. Ski season can be somewhat unpredictable, but Colorado is fortunate to get its fair share of snow each year, which gives it one of the longest ski seasons in the country. If you for sure want to hit the slopes, try to plan your trip for some time between late November and the middle of March to be safe. Many resorts will end up staying open through April but trying to come before the end of March is typically a safer bet.
For hiking, mountaineering, and general exploration: April through October. Colorado boasts ample amounts of sunshine each year, so chances are, you will get gorgeous weather if you come any time in April through October. If you plan to visit Rocky Mountain National Park to hike, climb or generally explore, coming during these months is a great way to soak up the sun and the scenery that the Front Range has to offer.
For general sightseeing and exploring the towns: Any month. There truly is not a bad time to visit the Front Range, especially if you want to do some general sightseeing that is not so weather dependent. Many of our local attractions (like the Mountain Coaster) are open year-round, so no matter when you plan your trip, you are guaranteed to have a fantastic experience!

Having fun is an innate desire for humans and animals alike. As long as species have been around, they have been inventing games, contraptions and devices to help them stay entertained—and the drive to have fun is also what spawned the invention of the mountain coaster.
Mountain coasters, also known as alpine coasters, have been around since 1996 and have been changing the way people have fun ever since. Below, we will be looking at some of the history and unique traits of mountain coasters so you can study up before you come and experience the thrill for yourself.
The first mountain coaster (trademarked as an alpine coaster) was invented by a German company called Brandauer and opened in Austria in 1996.
They were inspired by the popularity of bobsled coasters but decided to use rails instead of a trough for the track. To this day, Brandauer is known for its single-tube aluminum design, and its alpine coasters can be found throughout towns in the Alps.
While the original Brandauer design was constructed with a monorail-style track, some mountain coasters are built with a double-track system that is similar to a roller coaster.
Regardless of the single or double-track system, alpine coasters are beneficial in mountainous areas because their design allows them to run year-round and not be hindered by snow or ice.
Mountain coasters are not only a lot of fun, but they are also an interactive experience for riders. Riders can control their speed using a lever brake system on their cart, but there are still anti-collision measures in place to prevent any dangerous riding.
Mountain coasters can vary in length quite a bit. The original mountain coaster that opened in 1996 was 6,496 feet long.
Today, the longest mountain coaster in the world is 17,400 feet, according to the Guinness Book of World Records! It is located at the Naturlandia resort near Sant Julià de Lòria, Andorra.

We may be a little bit biased, but we feel like the Colorado Front Range is one of the most beautiful places around! What does the term Front Range refer to? The term Front Range actually refers to a mountain range that begins in Wyoming and works its way down to middle Colorado. The range contains some of Colorado’s most notable peaks and most gorgeous scenery and served as a sign to travelers that they had made it out west back during the pioneer days.
What are the components of the Front Range? The Front Range is made up of the Eastern Slope, the Western Slope and the Urban Corridor. The Eastern and Western slopes surround the area on either side and are home to the gorgeous mountains, while the Urban Corridor contains cities such as Boulder, Denver and Pueblo. The two slopes are responsible for the mild, wonderful weather these Colorado cities receive, as the mountains tend to block out any major storms or aggressive weather fronts.
What is there to do on Colorado’s Front Range? Not only is the Front Range a gorgeous piece of scenery, but it is also home to so many amazing and local attractions that highlight what makes Colorado amazing.
